What Is 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu?

10th Planet Jiu Jitsu is a no-gi submission grappling system created by Eddie Bravo. It is built around body control, submission wrestling, and positional dominance, without the traditional gi uniform used in most BJJ schools.

Everything at 10th Planet Bastrop is trained no-gi, making it one of the most practical and competition-relevant systems available today.

10th Planet is not an independent style, it is a trademarked system with a defined curriculum, a global network of affiliated academies, and a direct lineage from Eddie Bravo.

At 10th Planet Bastrop, you are learning that system from Gabe Tuttle, a first-degree black belt whose lineage runs directly through Richie "Boogeyman" Martinez to Eddie Bravo himself.

Why No-Gi?

Training without the gi removes the grip advantages that come with a uniform and forces you to develop timing, pressure, and body control that transfer directly to self defense and competition.

No-gi is faster, increasingly the competitive standard in submission grappling, and requires no special equipment beyond athletic shorts and a rash guard.

Adult BJJ Programs

No-Gi Jiu Jitsu

Our core adult program. Open to all experience levels, these classes move through the 10th Planet curriculum with a focus on technical instruction, positional drilling, and live rolling. Offered morning and evening six days a week.

No-Gi Fundamentals

Structured specifically for newer students and anyone building a stronger technical base. Fundamentals classes move at a deliberate pace with more drilling and direct instruction before live training. The right starting point before stepping into open competition classes.

Open Mat

Unstructured mat time to drill, roll, and work with partners at your own pace. No instruction, just time on the mats. Open mat runs Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons and is included with membership.

Class Schedule

Adult no-gi classes run six days a week with both morning and evening options.

Your Instructor: Gabe Tuttle

Gabe Tuttle is a first-degree black belt under Richie "Boogeyman" Martinez, the first homegrown black belt produced out of 10th Planet San Diego and one of the most recognized names in the 10th Planet system. Richie himself trains directly under Eddie Bravo, making Gabe's lineage as direct as it gets within the 10th Planet world.

Gabe began training in 2014, joined 10th Planet San Diego in 2015, earned his brown belt in 2017, and received his black belt in 2019, becoming Richie's first and only homegrown black belt. That distinction reflects not just skill but a long-term commitment to the system that most practitioners never reach.

Before opening 10th Planet Bastrop, Gabe served as head coach and general manager of 10th Planet Austin. His instructional work extends beyond the mat. He has produced grappling content including Killer Kimura and Body Lock Kimura Counter, structured systems that demonstrate the depth and clarity of his teaching approach.

His coaching philosophy is grounded in technical precision, steady progression, and the mental demands of jiu jitsu; patience, problem-solving, and learning to stay calm under pressure. Every class reflects that standard, whether you're a first-day beginner or a competitive grappler.

Who Trains Here?

10th Planet Bastrop draws students from across Bastrop County — from Bastrop proper, from Smithville, Cedar Creek, and communities along the Highway 71 corridor. What they share is not a background in martial arts. Most start with none. What they share is the decision to show up.

Our adult program includes complete beginners, athletes cross-training from wrestling, Muay Thai, and MMA, and experienced grapplers who want to train in a system rather than just roll. Gabe teaches all of them with the same standard — build the foundation, sharpen the details, develop the mindset.

You don't need to be in shape to start. You need to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience to join adult BJJ classes?

No. The Fundamentals track is specifically designed for new students, and all classes are coached with an eye toward where you actually are, not where more advanced students are.

What do I need to wear to my first class?

Athletic shorts and a fitted rash guard. No gi, no special uniform, no equipment required to get started.

How is 10th Planet different from other BJJ schools in the area?

10th Planet is a no-gi only system with a trademarked curriculum that runs through Eddie Bravo. No other gym in Bastrop or Smithville teaches this system. You are learning a specific, documented method, not a generic BJJ class.

How often should I train?

Two to three times per week is a strong starting point. Consistency over time matters more than frequency early on. With morning and evening options six days a week, most schedules can find a fit.

Is the founding member rate really locked in for life?

Yes. Members who join during the founding period lock in the current rate permanently. It does not increase as long as membership is maintained.

The Only Eddie Bravo Lineads

10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Bastrop is the only academy in Bastrop County training directly in the 10th Planet system under a credentialed black belt with a direct lineage to Eddie Bravo.
